On January 24th SOPA will come up for voting, and if it passes the internet will die. They say it is only to stop piracy, but it's only a matter of time before it is used to stop much more than it was intended to.

The bill will already shut down huge sites where communities flourish on parodies and sharing their favorite things. Imagine what will happen when someone with a bit of power doesn't like someone's idea? Banned. And think of all the organized protests in Egypt that couldn't have happened if it weren't for Facebook. This bill will not only take away our daily dose of funny pictures, videos, and blogs but it will also eventually take away our greatest way to communicate and express ourselves freely.

The only people pushing this bill are the ones who stand to profit. A bill driven by greed will never stop at just its outlined use. Tomorrow thousands of websites will strike in protest.
On another note, today I discovered that one (only one) of the public transit buses in San Luis Obispo is not like the others. Oh no, one of the buses is not the same. And of course I would notice. Most of the buses are bilingual and their seat covers have a pattern of red and blue alternating bars (just the thing to liven up those boring ol' gray interiors!). But this one particular bus is a rebel. It has rainbow bars (it's a fashion statement), and it has only English signs. I began to wonder about the implications of this and what sort of statement the transit people were trying to make, but then I got bored and ruminated on how much I feel sorry for the poor person who had to design the pattern on those seats.

Also, at the bus stop, there was a homeless man with a DVD player. And a bunch of sketchy guys talking about something very seriously, but I don't know what because they always dropped their voices right as they mentioned whatever it was. I was very disappointed, I wanted to know what the "stupid bitch" had done to mess up everything.Chellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246697601089758891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5315153871876647628.post-2769893164616831852011-11-15T23:06:00.000-08:002011-11-15T23:06:19.298-08:00This is LivingI went to the kitchen to get my cherry pie (which my boyfriend kindly bought for me as a surprise) from the fridge. I ignored the dishes stacked in the drying rack like a terrible game of Jenga gone wrong, the white counters that are covered in appliances, food, towels and crumbs, the pile of cardboard boxes stacked to the ceiling, and opened the fridge. My pie was not where it had been, it was hidden behind the Arizona Iced Tea bottles, which were hidden behind the numerous root beer bottles, which were on behind the mayonnaise, which were on top of the tortillas. When I had happily eaten another piece of my pie I placed it back where I found it.
We spent hours in a coffee shop called Kruezburg, CA, our favorite place. We were there until nearly midnight playing chess and scrabble, having the time of our lives and laughing so hard we were hoarse by the end of the night. Next to us was a group of people who were also laughing, but it was because they were getting drunk. Walking back to the car I saw so many people around our age flooding the bars, or leaving them. It made me happy to know that my group's idea of a good time didn't involve alcohol. We weren't stumbling home and we can actually remember how much fun we had.Chellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246697601089758891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5315153871876647628.post-48091386053093382832011-09-12T22:04:00.000-07:002011-09-12T22:04:28.719-07:00

But as I looked up at the small TV sitting on the counter I saw two buildings I didn't recognize with smoke coming out of them. I watched as suddenly the towers fell in on themselves as if they had been made of toothpicks. Everyone was scared and upset. I didn't understand why.
It wasn't until I got to school that I began to learn the true nature of what had happened. They told us there were people in those buildings, many of which had died when the planes had crashed into them. I couldn't understand why anyone would fly a plane into a building full of people. All I new was that the people who did were called terrorists, and that they were bad people.
I grew up in a world after 9/11, and I will always remember that day. Even if we learn to forgive, we must never forget.Chellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246697601089758891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5315153871876647628.post-87935425007197658302011-09-09T19:13:00.000-07:002011-09-09T19:13:40.552-07:00Two-Faced

I like to sew stuffed animals, and recently I've been making a lot for my new etsy shop, Kaleidoscope Creatures. While I'm making them I noticed a strange quirk of mine. I feel that they are not truly "alive" until they have eyes, so I always put the eyes in last. I can't help it, I feel like the moment I see them looking at me they start gaining personalities. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul, so I feel like when I give them eyes I am giving them souls.
They're not really alive though, unless Toy Story is actually a documentary.Chellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246697601089758891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5315153871876647628.post-51336162138262004062011-09-07T09:47:00.000-07:002011-09-07T09:47:42.103-07:00Why I Love Cats

And it's funny, but I think this little dream of mine is reflected in my appearance sometimes. It makes me wonder, are our personalities and appearances made up of all our little dreams and fantasies? Especially when the wind flows through their branches and makes them sway and sing. So many people always see them as these dead, unmoving things, but they’re not. They are constantly moving, building and growing upwards. They always reach for the sky, heading ever higher towards the sun they crave. They don’t waste any time running around on the ground, like we do. They always reach up towards what they really want. You see, the moment you stop rushing about and look up, that’s when you can really start reaching for what’s good in life.
Chellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246697601089758891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5315153871876647628.post-73326111058435427392011-08-29T10:06:00.000-07:002011-08-29T10:06:04.285-07:00Half Back...I'm back from the world of no cell service or internet connections, it was wonderful. I'm still on vacation, however, so posts will be sparse. Not that it matters much, I probably only have around two to three readers, so I hope you guys don't mind. New post in a bit.Chellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246697601089758891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5315153871876647628.post-53262447188417054552011-08-18T11:17:00.000-07:002011-08-18T11:17:33.372-07:00Gone and gone again...

So I just got back from a four day family vacation to Disneyland (which was awesome) and tomorrow I'm leaving on a two week trip to visit with my boyfriend and his family. I'll be writing down stuff I think of as I go, but there is no internet on the ranch where we will be staying so there will be no more posts until September 6th. =)Chellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246697601089758891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5315153871876647628.post-27014320379724675332011-08-13T18:20:00.000-07:002011-08-13T18:20:49.001-07:00Memories

I learned how to jump a fence (if it was small enough), catch a toad, and create whole worlds using just my imagination and the wild grass. My fondest memories from that time aren’t from movies, tv, or videogames. The memories I cherish are of the adventures I had (I hated playing house or worse, school). Of running barefoot on a gravel road, playing with my shadow in the moonlight, watching the stars and having an awesome outdoor cat who always brought the grossest surprises.
Chellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246697601089758891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5315153871876647628.post-24413757598841634432011-08-12T12:06:00.000-07:002011-08-12T12:06:13.829-07:00Grass

The view from that mountain

I touched a cloud once and to touch this cloud I had to climb a mountain. It was a long and difficult climb, but it was worth it. The funny thing about it, though, was touching the cloud wasn’t really all that impressive. It was just a little bit of moisture on my fingers and walking through it was like walking through fog. What was amazing about it was the view of the world I saw from the top of that mountain, and the feeling that I could do whatever I wanted if I just put my mind to it.

But you know, putting your mind to something is the hardest thing to do, just like it’s difficult to begin climbing a mountain.
Chellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246697601089758891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5315153871876647628.post-31120073306111901312011-08-10T16:10:00.000-07:002011-08-11T12:53:35.270-07:00Baby DreamsMy friend just had a baby and he was asleep when we went to visit. As I was holding him I couldn't help but wonder whether he was dreaming during all that sleeping. Is it just nothingness? Or does he dream of the womb? Then he has that "startle" reflex where he wakes up with a jolt and we all wondered if he was having dreams of being born.
Or do they dream of the endless possibilities that lie ahead of them in their brand new life?Chellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246697601089758891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5315153871876647628.post-87468750176707724262011-08-10T12:03:00.000-07:002011-08-10T12:03:05.760-07:00Flowers

Flowers are so beautiful. It’s not just because of their color and our cultural reverence for them. It is because something so simple can create such beauty. No matter what happens in our much too busy lives grass will still grow and flowers will still bloom.
Chellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246697601089758891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5315153871876647628.post-84102648793682092862011-08-10T11:28:00.000-07:002011-08-10T11:28:37.578-07:00Tired of HidingIf you know me in real life, you've probably seen me staring off into space at some point or other. When I'm staring off into space I'm thinking, and I'm not thinking about nothing. I have a million little thoughts, small paragraphs about life in my head. Some seem profound, others just silly observations. I've started writing them down, now I'm going to share them.
I'm tired of hiding my kaleidoscope thoughts, so get ready, here they come. Chellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246697601089758891noreply@blogger.com0
